The land in Tolani Lake area is colorful with indigenous plant life. There are Sand Dunes, Red Mesas with Valleys, Hills and Washes. The Tolani Lake community was settled in the late 1890's. Settlers were attracted by the rich basin suitable for farming. In 1930, a Trading Post and a School were built. Before the chapter house was built, the community would gather outside this old Trading Post or under old brush arbors to conduct meetings. An old BIA school was the center of many activities before it was converted for pre-school use. The Tolani Lake Chapter conducts monthly meetings to keep residents informed of community issues; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter. Tolani Lake community established their own Water User's Assocation to where livestck owners express issues regarding their cattle.
